Laverne Cox Snags Lead Role In CBS Pilot
Many of us were introduced to her as a firefighter-turned-convicted-felon, but now we’ll get to see Laverne Cox on the other side of the law.
According to People, the ‘Orange is the New Black’ star has snagged a lead role in CBS legal pilot, Doubt.
Cox will be playing Cameron Wirth, a transgender Ivy League-educated defense attorney who is described as “competitive as she is compassionate. She’s fierce, funny and the fact that she’s experienced injustice first hand makes her fight all the harder for her clients.”
The script will be written by Grey’s Anatomy producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan. They will also step in as executive producers alongside Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.
This game-changing casting decision makes Cox the first transgender lead character in the history of network television. Of course, this isn’t the first time the 30-year-old has made history. Last year, she became the first transgender actress to be nominated for an Emmy for her role as Litchfield Correctional Facility inmate Sophia Burset.
“I feel so blessed to be a vessel for this moment,” she said of her 2014 nomination. “It’s wild because there’s a lot of haters out there, but there’s been so much love … I’ve been really lucky that people have been connecting with me and my story as well.”
We’re pretty thrilled about how diversified network television is becoming. Does “Doubt” sound a series you’ll be interested in checking out?

February 15, 05:10CBS has way too many police procedural shows and I hope this one sticks with the audience. They should throw in a hot black gay character in the mix to keep me interested

February 15, 06:55I’m not a diehard fan of the police procedural – being too familiar with the formula – but I’ll stick around for this one.

February 15, 07:52*sigh*…would I be a cynic to worry that hollywood might be using Lavern Cox as a socio-political experiment? Or to prove a socio-political point? (Pls,nobody should bash me; I know I should be celebrating the victory of “one of our own”, but I just hope hollywood has pure intentions, and this is not just to prove a point of “liberalism and acceptance”).

February 15, 08:35Chestnut I am totally with you on this one. I pointed this out the other day with the athletes!
Sometimes its more about making statements and cashing in on ratings

February 15, 08:19What do you think? Of course it is! Everything Hollywood does these days that involve the LGBT community is just to shove the mantra of “liberalism and acceptance” down our throat. With the rate at which the lgbt is being recoginized across America, they dont want to be the ones wearing the lastma jacket

February 15, 09:39pls PP can you moderate the whole ” First to comment thing”. I mean really WTF tho? not only is it extremely childish but its very reminiscent of Linda Ikeji’s blog.
anddddd fingers crossed on this proposed pilot, hopefully it pulls enough ratings and doesn’t get vetoed!

February 15, 09:58Oh dear, I feel so childish. I really shouldn’t have written that. I’m sorry. You might have just read and skimmed past but oh well, childish me.
