Britain’s “first gay dads” split after one of them starts dating their teenage daughter’s ex-boyfriend

It’s a tale as old as time: Boy meets boy, boys marry and father five kids, boys break up when one falls madly in love with their daughter’s ex-boyfriend, and they all live happily ever after.

Such is the fate of Britain’s first gay dads, who have gone public with their unconventional family dynamic after one of them fell “head over heels” for a guy who dated their 19-year-old daughter. Now they all live under one roof — a $7 million mansion in Florida.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow (pictured above left) made headlines in 1999 when they became the first British same-sex couple to be named as parents on a birth certificate, for their newborn twins Saffron (pictured above middle) and Aspen. It was a landmark court ruling that ushered in a new era for LGBTQ parents in the UK.

After setting up their own lucrative surrogacy company, the couple had three more children — Orlando, born in 2003, and twins Jasper and Dallas born in 2010.

Tony and Barrie Drewitt-Barlow are now worth £40million from their ventures including a trans-Atlantic surrogacy business

Thirty-two years into their relationship, Barrie, 50, and Tony, 55, have decided to split. Barrie now plans to marry Saffron’s ex-boyfriend, Scott Hutchinson, 25 (pictured above right). Tony and Saffron have both reportedly given their blessing, and they all plan to live as one big happy family.

Speaking with The Sun, Barrie explained: “I’ve fallen in love with Scott and he has done the same. I feel stupid at my age to have these feelings about someone other than Tony and half my age. But when you know something is right, it’s right. We have not made definite plans but I would like to marry Scott.

“I’m not having a mid-life crisis — if I was having one, I’d buy myself a Porsche 911. This is the real deal. But not everyone will get it, as our living arrangements are unorthodox — I feel like I’m living in a commune, we are all still living together.”

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow says he’s ‘head over heels’ for Scott Hutchison — who is half his age and previously dated his daughter Saffron

He continued: “Our children are still in a stable set-up, more so than many other families have. But now Dad’s got a new fella and we are one bigger happy family instead.”

Barrie also explained that Scott and Saffron’s relationship was never sexual. See? Nothing weird here.

“Saffron and Scott had been split for many months and this was something totally unexpected,” he said. “Saffron and Scott were always just friends — their relationship was puppy love. They never had a sexual relationship as she was so young. Scott had made no secret of being bisexual which was why their physical relationship never developed.”

So, which was it? They never had sex because Saffron was “so young” (19) or because of Scott’s bisexuality?

Whatever the reason, Barrie and Tony sat Saffron down at the dining table to tell her the news.

“Of course, she was annoyed at first,” Barrie said to The Sun, “but Tony said, ‘This is a good idea. You can see how Scott is with Daddy, he likes him.’ There were no rows. We just talked as adults. Saffron sees how happy we are and she has accepted it.”

I know these guys and I’ve even met them . Tony is a sweetheart. The man has a heart of pure gold. He battled cancer and won whilst retaining his joyful spirit. Barrie on the other hand is a piece of work. The way he bullied Tony made me sad and I wish Tony the best going forward. Barrie can eat the contents of a sewer.

There is a line in the movie “Crazy rich asians” where Michelle provides a distinction between going after “happiness” versus going after “something real that lasts”. Sadly most people are obssessed with the former, which often is a mirage. That thing u think is happiness is often fleeting, building a real home takes real hard work, commitment and dedication. Not flipping out based on feelings that are at best temporary. This barrie had a good stable relationship, only to abandon it for childish infatuation

“probably converted the nigga while the poor nigga was still dating his daughter”? “It’s a gay thing”?

There are so many things wrong with this comment, I don’t even know where to begin.
