THE KIND OF LOVE YOU DESERVE

THE KIND OF LOVE YOU DESERVE

You have come to know

Like a gleam that stretches the closer you get to the light

You have become aware of the truth

Seen it, held it, cradled it in your heart

With every breath you took that brought in the fullness of life

With every wink of a new day born

And the sigh of a long day spent

With every whisper of nature that makes you who you are

You have come to know

The kind of love you deserve.

It is a love that is rich in rhymes and full of melody

The love of poetry and tales as old as time

The love that drove battleships to Troy and defied gods

A love that takes up arms when you’re threatened

Because your well-being is what it believes in.

It is the love that walks on the beach

And beholds all your dreams so breathlessly within reach

It is a love of warm sunshine and showers of rain

A love of crackling desires that seek to take a chance with you

Even when you do not know what the next step is.

It is the love that looks at you and sees you

The love that reaches for you and needs you

A love that promises to grow into a family

A love of worlds so bright

All you do is laugh and hold tight to each other.

It is a love of tough times and unspoken words

Because your hearts are one with the pain

It is a love that endures all the heartaches of the day

A love of kisses goodnight, warm embraces and loving at night

When every touch is about a recovery of what was lost.

You have come to know this truth

About the love you deserve

You have seen it, held it, cradled it in your heart

You know this truth

Because it is the kind of love you have to give.

For Jamel Myles

For what good is humanity If time and time again, it fails To achieve its one primal aim Which is to accept, love And protect those under its wings Regardless

Does any gay man ever get a love like this in Nigeria?

Are you responding from experience or just theoretically?
