Lessons Learned From ‘She Called Me Woman’ (Entry 16)

LESSON 16

From the chapter, ‘Your Sexuality Doesn’t Define Who You Are’, BW says:

“Sex is very important to a relationship. There is a connection that comes with sex. I also find that if you have sex a lot, you fight less. The insecurity and unnecessary quarrels don’t come up because you are basking in the euphoria. Sex, love, you are happy.”

One of the nicest things a good friend of mine ever said to me was at the ending of a year when he said I inspired him to embrace his inner hoe and bring him out. LOL! Apparently I’d been so vocal and open about my sexual freedom that he had finally come to the awareness that he too can have lots of sex and feel no shame.

The gate-keepers we have in our community would like to tell you that you are being a hoe and giving the community a bad name and yada, yada, yada. You cannot stop them from talking. But you can stop yourself from feeling shame.

Another friend came to a point in his relationship where his boyfriend accused him of being too sexual, always wanting them to shag. According to the boyfriend, the sex should be the least of the things that defines their relationship. My friend swiftly broke up with the guy. To me he said, “Imagine! In my relationship, I’m being told that the sex is too much. If I’m single, I’ll be castigated for having too much sex. If I’m in a relationship, I’ll be castigated for having too much sex. What is wrong with world people abeg?”

LOL! When he discovers what is wrong with world people, I’m hoping he will tell me. Until then, please be merry and have all the sex you can get now that you’re able to.
