#GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend: Twitter wants a boyfriend for Captain America

Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes in a romantic relationship? That’s what some fans want to see on the big screen in the next Captain America movie.

Following Idina Menzel addressing a fan-fueled campaign aiming to get Frozen’s Princess Elsa to have a girlfriend in the upcoming sequel, a new Twitter campaign is calling on Marvel to give Chris Evans’ character a boyfriend in future installments of the Captain America film series.

The #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend movement began trending this week, with many users seemingly enthused by the idea:ame1 2ame1ame2, 3ame4ame5ame6

However, a few others voiced opposition to the campaign as well:ame7

  1. I want to see this happen too *covers face* ? but it won’t be happening. They won’t want to risk losing a large fan base. They’ll rather create a new gay or transgender superhero.

Although when you read some Steve and Bucky fan fiction…it’ll have you singing a different tune.

Plus the chemistry between Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan is quite palpable.

When you also think that Capt America went to war with 117 countries for Bucky, well…

  5. These people shouting for Cap to have a boyfriend. Have they read any comics? Are they aware that Steve Rogers isn’t gay? Instead of trying to make straight characters rewritten as gay, they should push for comics of known gay characters to be made into movies. Like making a Batwoman movie, or having reintroduced Bobby Drake in the next X-men movie (and you know there will be one). I’d have the same reaction to a straight hero written as gay to a gay character written as straight, which is “this isn’t canon, this is bullshit”.
